IMB congratulates Dr Peter Beattie, AC and Professor Ian Frazer, AC, FRCPE, FRCPA, FAA, FATSE, FRS on being awarded Australia's highest honour in the Queen's Birthday Honours list: a Companion in the Order of Australia.
As a former Premier, Dr Beattie was instrumental in driving the science, biotechnology and research revolution in Queensland under his Smart State initiative.
Over the past 15 years, successive Labor and Coalition, State and Federal governments, as well as major overseas philanthropists, have helped to build a word-class research industry in Queensland, which has resulted in major growth in new buildings, facilities, brains trust and outcomes reaching to every university and research institution in the State.
As the forerunner of much of this growth, the IMB is particularly proud to acknowledge the leadership of Dr Beattie, an Adjunct Professor of the IMB, and the wonderful achievements of Professor Ian Frazer, an Affiliate of the IMB, whose Gardasil vaccine is a prime example of what Queensland science can deliver to the world.
