IMB Sequencing Facility

The IMB Sequencing Facility (ISF) provides sequencing services to UQ and the research community in the greater Brisbane region. 

The sequencing specialist team will tailor the sequencing part of your research project to your needs and have an active communication throughout the projects time.

We are able to provide fast turnaround times with a track record of returning high-quality sequencing data within three weeks of sample submission.

Equipment available

  • Illumina NextSeq 500

The illumina NextSeq 500 sequencing system allows for fast, high-throughput sequencing while also offering flexibility in applications. Using illumina’s sequencing by synthesis chemistry, runs can generate over 300 million reads and can be completed in as little as 11 hours. Generated sequencing data is provided in the standard fastq file format, allowing users access to a wide range of established protocols, workflows, data sets and data analysis tools.

  • Illumina MiSeq

The illumina MiSeq sequencing system is ideal for more focused applications, such as amplicon and small genome sequencing. The MiSeq offers the advantage of longer read lengths up to 300 bp, and can generate over 16 million reads in 21 hours. Generated sequencing data is provided in the standard fastq file format, allowing users access to a wide range of established protocols, workflows, data sets and data analysis tools.

  • Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer

The Agilent Bioanalyzer is a microfluidics-based platform for the analysis of DNA, RNA, proteins, and cells. It uses lab-on-a-chip technology to generate analysis of digital data. The Agilent Bioanalyzer can be used for both electrophoretic separation and flow cytometric analysis of cell fluorescence parameters. The 2100 Expert software makes it easy to handle and store the digital data.

The IMB Sequencing Facility team can run your DNA or RNA samples on the Bioanalyzer for you or they can train you to run your own samples on the IMB communal instrument. The Bioanalyzer can be booked through the IMB web.db booking system under Microarray Facility equipment. It is not recommended to run your own samples without training.
              

  • Perkin Elmer LabChip GX

The LabChip GX assays are based on traditional gel electrophoresis principles that have been transferred to a chip format. The chip format dramatically reduces separation time and provides automated sizing and quantitation information in a digital format. The LabChip GX provides high-throughput DNA and RNA analysis in a plate format.

  • Covaris S2 Sonicator

The Covaris S2 is the entry level platform provided by Covaris using their patented Adaptive Focused Acoustics™ process. This technology allows for the extremely controlled and precise mechanical energy to be focused at a specific point allowing the shearing of DNA samples.

Training by the IMB Sequencing Facility team is required to use this instrument.
 

  • 10X Genomics Chromium Single Cell machine​

The Chromium Controller has been designed to rapidly and efficiently automate the equivalent of 100,000s to 1,000,000s of pipetting steps for highly parallel sample partitioning and molecular barcoding. The Chromium Controller allows a user to run any of our Chromium Single Cell Gene Expression, Single Cell Immune Profiling, Genome Sequencing and Exome Sequencing Solutions.

  • PacBio Sequel

A solution for long-read sequencing. The new Sequel System is based on our proven Single Molecule, Real-Time (SMRT) Sequencing technology. Sequel SMRT Cells contain 1 million zero-mode waveguides delivering up to 10 billion bases of long-read sequence per whole-genome analysis run, and up to 20 Gb in RNA isoform sequencing (Iso-Seq). The Sequel System is ideal for rapid and cost-effective de novo genome assembly, structural variation analysis, gene annotation, targeted analysis, and much more.
