Sequencing Facility - Systems and Equipment

Illumina NextSeq 500

The Illumina NextSeq 500 sequencing system allows for fast, high-throughput sequencing while also offering flexibility in applications. Using Illumina’s sequencing by synthesis chemistry, runs can generate over 300 million reads and can be completed in as little as 11 hours. Generated sequencing data is provided in the standard fastq file format, allowing users access to a wide range of established protocols, workflows, data sets and data analysis tools.

This equipment can only be operated by the UQ Sequencing Facility team. Please contact us for more information.

Illumina MiSeq

The Illumina MiSeq sequencing system is ideal for more focused applications, such as amplicon and small genome sequencing. The MiSeq offers the advantage of longer read lengths up to 300 bp, and can generate over 16 million reads in 21 hours. Generated sequencing data is provided in the standard fastq file format, allowing users access to a wide range of established protocols, workflows, data sets and data analysis tools.

This equipment can only be operated by the UQ Sequencing Facility team. Please contact us for more information.

Illumina NovaSeq 6000

The Illumina NovaSeq 6000 sequencing system is ideal for projects requiring a higher read depth. Multiple flow cell types and read length combinations offer flexible output and run time configurations based on project needs, offering output up to 6 Tb and 20 B reads in < 2 days.

Generated sequencing data is provided in the standard fastq file format, allowing users access to a wide range of established protocols, workflows, data sets and data analysis tools.

We provide access to this equipment through a close collaboration with Microba, based at the Translational Research Institute. Please contact us for more information.

PacBio Sequel II

A solution for long-read sequencing. The new Sequel II System is based on PacBio’s proven Single Molecule, Real-Time (SMRT) Sequencing technology. Sequel II SMRT Cells contain 8 million zero-mode waveguides and provides access to highly accurate long reads (HiFi). The Sequel II System is ideal for rapid and cost-effective de novo genome assembly, structural variation analysis, gene annotation, targeted analysis, and much more. Generated raw sequencing data is provided in PacBio’s standard subreads.bam format, but some basic analysis can also be performed using PacBio’s SMRT Link suite of software.

This equipment is available through a joint partnership with AGRF and can only be operated by the UQ Sequencing Facility team and AGRF staff. Please contact us for more information.

10X Genomics Chromium Single Cell system

The Chromium Controller has been designed to enable integrated analysis of single cells at large scale, through the ability to generate tens of thousands of single cell partitions, each containing an identifying barcode for downstream analysis. This device allows us to run any of the suite of Chromium Single Cell solutions to capture molecular snapshots of cell activity in multiple dimensions, including gene expression, cell surface proteins, immune clonotype, antigen specificity, and chromatin accessibility.

This equipment can only be operated by the UQ Sequencing Facility team. Please contact us for more information.

Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer

The Agilent Bioanalyzer is a microfluidics-based platform for quality control analysis of DNA, RNA, and proteins. It uses lab-on-a-chip technology and electrophoretic separation to generate digital data for analysis.  The 2100 Expert software makes it easy to handle and store the digital data.

The UQ Sequencing Facility team can run your DNA or RNA samples on the Bioanalyzer for you or they can train you to run your own samples on the IMB communal instrument. The IMB communal Bioanalyzer can be booked through the IMB web.db booking system under Microarray Facility equipment. It is not recommended to run your own samples without training.

Perkin Elmer LabChip GX

The LabChip GX assays are based on traditional gel electrophoresis principles that have been transferred to a chip format. The chip format dramatically reduces separation time and provides automated sizing and quantitation information in a digital format. The LabChip GX provides high-throughput DNA and RNA quality control analysis in a plate format.

This equipment can only be operated by the UQ Sequencing Facility team. Please contact us for more information.

Covaris S2 Sonicator

The Covaris S2 is the entry level platform provided by Covaris using their patented Adaptive Focused Acoustics™ process. This technology allows controlled and precise non-contact shearing of DNA samples.

Training by the UQ Sequencing Facility team is required to use this instrument.
