From Bench to Bedside: Patient Centred Innovation
Panel Discussion
The panel will explore strategies for improving patient care through clinical innovations, focusing on effective translation of research into practice. Discussions will address how collaborative partnerships drive success, challenges encountered, and practical steps for implementation.
Presentation Topics and Speakers
- A/Prof Gianluigi Li Bassi, a senior intensivist and lead of CCRG’s preclinical research program, will provide clinical perspectives on patient-centred care.
- A/Prof Anne Lagendijk, vascular biologist at UQ’s IMB, uses a unique zebra fish model that sheds light on vascular formation and its implications for stroke, cerebral cavernous malformations (CCM) and other brain vessel disorders. She will share how genetic models are uncovering the causes and how this research is translating into new approaches for stroke prevention and patient care.
- Dr Brett McKinnon, IMB Senior Research Fellow, will present on the development of endometriosis organoids and the application of PET scans in research.
- Dr Larisa Labzin, an innate immunity researcher at UQ’s IMB, explores how our immune system detects viruses and vaccines to trigger protective immune responses. Her research into Influenza and COVID-19 is uncovering how to treat dangerous, overactive immune responses during these infections, leading to better treatments and preventative measures. Her research will also inform how to leverage the innate immune system to improve vaccine safety and efficacy.
- Mr Oystein Tronstad, CCRG Lead Clinical Research and Project Manager for the ICU of the Future, will discuss evidence-based initiatives aimed at enhancing patient recovery in the ICU.
This event promises to be an enlightening forum for healthcare professionals, researchers, and stakeholders interested in the pivotal role of patient-centred research and innovations. It focuses on translating groundbreaking discoveries into practical applications for patients, highlighting the importance of patient-centred innovations and their integration into clinical practice. Leading researchers and clinicians will explore personalised medicine and engineering solutions that enhance patient health, offering valuable insights into effectively implementing translational research to improve outcomes.
