He’s an internationally renowned neurosurgeon who rides a motorbike, plays the bagpipes, and spends three months a year doing pro bono work in developing countries.

Now, South-East Queensland residents can learn more about Associate Professor Charlie Teo’s career and vision for the future of brain cancer treatment in a free community event on Friday 21 August during National Science Week.

Hosted by The University of Queensland’s Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB), ‘Beating the odds against brain cancer’ will feature an inspiring and thought-provoking conversation between Dr Teo and award-winning journalist Madonna King.

IMB Director and brain cancer researcher Professor Brandon Wainwright encouraged Brisbane locals to come along and join the conversation about brain cancer.

“Dr Teo and I share a passion for finding a cure for this devastating disease, which kills more young people in Australia than any other cancer,” Professor Wainwright said.

“Dr Teo is working towards better treatments through his own pioneering work and also through supporting world-class research.

“We encourage locals to join us and hear about the exciting progress we’re making to develop better ways to detect and treat brain cancer.”
