Dr Cas Simons completed a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry from the University of Otago (2002). He then completed a PhD in Genomics and Computational Biology at The University of Queensland studying functional elements in the non-protein coding regions of mammalian genomes.

His current research is focussed on understanding the genetic bases of rare and undiagnosed disorders.  Using a combination of genome sequencing and computational genomics, his group aims to identify and describe the genetic underpinning of rare unresolved Mendelian diseases.
