Bev is a practicing haematologist with a career-long interest in the contribution of diagnostics to healthcare. She has served on four major advisory committees to the Federal Government in this area and currently chairs the National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) which advises Australian governments on the accreditation of pathology laboratories.

Bev is currently:

  • a member of the Minister’s Medical Benefits Schedule Taskforce
  • a director of RCPA Quality Assurance Programs Pty Ltd, a major national and international provider of programs
  • a director of  Genome.One, the first Australian company to offer whole genome sequencing for diagnostic purposes. 
  • a director of the Avant Mutual Group, Avant Insurance Ltd and the Doctors Health Fund.

Bev has a particular interest in the translation of diagnostic technologies from research to clinical settings. During her time as President of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA), she oversaw the establishment of the RCPA Faculty of Science to provide training and foster translational research. She now chairs the RCPA Foundation Research Grants Committee.

Bev is Director of Haematology at Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology, part of the Sonic Healthcare group, Associate Professor of Cellular and Molecular Pathology at The University of Queensland and is the current Chair of the Federal Council of the Australian Medical Association.
